One-Day Itinerary
Uncovering the Origins of Tea Culture — Mengding Mountain
Depart from downtown Chengdu at 8:00 AM, heading to Mengding Mountain, with a travel time of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
Arrive at Mengding Mountain Visitor Center at 9:30 AM and check in. First visit the landmark 'World’s First Teapot' — a giant teapot-shaped structure with water flowing from its spout, simulating pouring tea. This is a must-see attraction upon entering Mengding Mountain.
At 10:00 AM, take the one-way cable car up the mountain to enter the core tea region.
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Tian'gai Temple Area — Enjoy Mengding Ganlu tea in an ancient ginkgo courtyard, watch the 'Dragon Dance Eighteen Moves' long-spouted teapot tea performance; then visit the Imperial Tea Garden — the original site where Western Han Dynasty figure Wu Lizhen planted seven tea bushes and the core area of imperial tribute teas throughout history. Explore the Guanlu Well and Guanlu Stone Chamber areas, featuring spring sources and stone structures related to tea production.
12:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Tea Picking & Processing Experience with Lunch — Move to a partner tea garden to pick one bud and one leaf according to season, then proceed to the workshop for摊青 (withering),杀青 (fixing),揉捻 (rolling), and drying to complete a small batch of homemade tea. During this time, enjoy mountain-view tea cuisine or Mengding tea meals (tea-fried eggs, tea-scented cured pork, Ya fish, etc.).
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Descend via the Ancient Heavenly Staircase Trail — Walk down the mountain along the ancient staircase trail, consisting of about 1,456 steps made of green stone. Along the way, admire remnants of the Tea Horse Road, Yuhuang Palace, and the stone archway of Jingju An Buddhist Temple.
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Mengding Mountain Tea History Museum — Explore exhibition halls on tracing tea origins, seeking tea, singing about tea, and contemplating tea, gaining a systematic understanding of Mengding Tribute Tea, tea-horse trade, and Wu Lizhen’s tea planting history.
6:00 PM: Return to Chengdu, concluding the one-day tea journey.
